White Gold Rings!
Gemstones have been used to create jewelry in almost civilization and country since the dawn
of recorded history. They were used extensively by almost all ancient civilizations and gemstone jewelry was
worn by royalty and the common man alike.
Since
the era of Art Deco prevalent in the 1920s, white gold
rings have gained tremendous popularity because it is cheaper than
platinum rings. People who do not have the budget or cannot afford the expensive platinum ones opt for the less
expensive white gold rings.
White gold rings also do not go out
of style as so many vintage lovers like to have it for its artistic and aesthetic
value.
Unlike the belief of
many, white gold isn’t as rare as the other precious stones. These are mostly yellow gold that are dipped in a
white gold formula. While it is true that white gold does exist, their compositions are too soft to be made into
any kinds of jewellery. Therefore, what the manufacturers do is to use the yellow gold as the base for the ring,
then coat if afterwards with a white gold formula. Very few people know this for a fact, as they think that
the white gold rings they
have are made from pure white gold. So they don’t know that white gold
rings have the strength and shine obtained from yellow gold, but are
made beautiful and classy with a white gold combination. This is like getting the best out of both
worlds.
Additionally, the
composition of white gold rings,
aside from the yellow gold has the combination of either nickel or palladium. It can also be mixed with silver,
thereby gaining the title of a "rich man’s silver." It is also plated with rhodium to make it more luminescent and
brilliant. Compared with platinum rings, white gold
rings are lighter and sturdier; and compared with other yellow gold
rings, white gold rings are
stronger and are more scratch resistant.
For people who would want
a sturdy and cheaper alternative to platinum rings,
white gold rings are the most advisable. They look best when
decorated with diamonds, as the sheer brilliance of the ring is captured strongly by these precious stones.
Also, white gold is a good alternative for those allergic to yellow gold as ironically, their allergies do not
respond to white gold rings even if they are just yellow gold dipped in white. For those who are allergic to
nickel, there are available rings that do not contain nickel as they are alternately made of palladium or
silver.
The white gold in the rings, however, may vanish after a long
time, thereby showing the yellow gold base. If this happens, there is an easy alternative for this. When the
yellow gold starts showing up, you can re-dip the ring into the white gold formula. Any jewelry shop can
provide this service for you at a small price. A well-made whit gold ring will have at least more than 2
layers of white gold coating to make it more long lasting, though there are times when scratches cannot be
prevented. Once the re-dipping is done, however, the white gold will be back to its original luster, and the
next time that you will have to re-dip it would be for another 25 years.
When buying a
white gold ring , it is best to know the deals from different stores. Do not be lazy to shop around before hasting
to buy any, as you may be surprised that you can save more money while getting the best quality rings in the
market.
