Pearl rings can be made of pearls that have a lot of the crystalline structure known as nacre that reflects light in a unique way. Some pearls are not so nacreous and have porcelain like surface. Basically pearl jewelry and pearl rings have rough exteriors. This is because it is a product of the mollusk’s biological process giving the surface of the pearl some minor gritty imperfections. This is actually how you can tell a real pearl from an artificial one.

Pearls have a wide array of sizes and shapes; there are actually more irregular pearls than perfectly spherical ones. The size and shape greatly depend on the kind of mollusk that produces the pearl. Thus, pearl rings can also take a wide variety of structures and designs. Pearl rings can also have pearls of colors other than white. There are gold, black and even purple pearls. The most lustrous of pearls even give off a distinctive glow. This is when the reflection of the light rays on the surface of the pearl and on the layers of nacre seems to be coming from the inside of the pearl. The more layers of nacre pearl rings have, the more iridescence like the shimmer of a soap bubble it has.

It is therefore a good match to set pearls in silver, white gold or yellow gold. The sides of the pearl rings could even be adorned with other precious gems like diamonds, quartz, and crystals. The size of the pearl also varies and it can be floating on the ring or half of it can be seen on the ring. In more recent times, the mother of pearl is set into yellow gold, white gold, or silver. They can be worn for a day at work, while walking in the park or even a formal function like an awards night. Rings with pearls are a great accessory to have and yet very minimalistic and classy all at the same time.

As all the other gems we have in the market that is used in jewelry and other accessories, pearls also have a meaning. They used to be associated with the moon in historical times. It symbolizes purity and transformation of the spirit. By wearing a pearl on jewelry, it reminds the person to be pure, honest and live with dignity. It also denotes purity, innocence and faith. The black pearls and also the gold colored ones symbolize prosperity and riches. As in the olden days and even today, pearls are still a favorite in bridal wear, the jewelry the bride has and even the dress are adorned with pearls.
